Cambodia - Immunization
Prevention is better than cure
Tetanus, measles, diptheria, whooping cough, polio and
childhood tuberculosis are almost forgotten diseases in the
west. However they are still causing the deaths and
disabilities of thousands of Cambodian children.
Immunisation in the first two years of life is the single most
effective way of saving children's lives.
Servants help carry out a comprehensive immunisation program
in conjunction with local authorities and community
volunteers. It is difficult and tedious work going from
door to door, but the results are encouraging.
Rates of immunisation in our district have increased from 55%
to 95% (surveyed 2001). Through this unglamorous but essential
work we are preventing thousands of future cases of disease,
disability and death.
