Cambodia - Tuberculosis Treatment

Tuberculosis (TB), along with Malaria and AIDS is one of the top three killers of young adults in Cambodia today.  Those with HIV/AIDS are highly vulnerable to TB and without treatment will die much sooner than necessary.  In a country with only one doctor per 10,000 people, new and creative approaches have had to be found to combat this deadly disease.

Mobile TB medics

Servants have implemented an innovative home to home medicine delivery program using "mobile medics" - medical staff on motorbikes who visit and assist the TB patients in sticking to their eight month medical regime.

The response from patients has been overwhelmingly positive.  Over 400 have so far received TB treatment in this way and an excellent rate of cure has resulted.  This program mobilises both government staff and volunteers to make a difference in the lives of many.
