Servants have been living and working amongst the urban poor in this major Indian city for the past 10 years. For many years the team was working in the urban poor communities in the south of the city.

There they built a strong network of relationships and partnered closely with Indian Christians in building the Kingdom of God amongst the poor. They established an innovative ministry amongst young women from the slums that continues to provide training and job opportunities. As well as being trained in tailoring and paper crafts, the women are taught English, business skills and values for life. Today the project is directed by an Indian Christian ministry that continues to empower the women to earn a livelihood, grow in self esteem and dignity, and become self sufficient.

These days a new Servants team has formed in another region of the city. This team is establishing itself in slum communities, learning language and culture, and building relationships with local NGOs and Christians. They are also praying and discerning the ways that God might use them to be part of the transformation of urban poor communities in India.
