In Servants we hold firm to one particular belief concerning the work of the gospel - that is: Christ's compassion should be seen in actions, and never just reduced to words. We want to see the transformation of a whole society not just pay lip service to a list of beliefs.
In our work with the poorest of the poor, we recognise that they have much to offer towards their own development. Like the widow with her two mites and the boy with just a handful of loaves and fishes, the poor are not exempt from contributing - they have valuable and important resources to bring too.
We believe the greatest resource of a community is its people and so we seek to mobilise local church volunteers and community workers. We try to identify people with compassion and provide them with training, encouragement and seed resources so that they are empowered to bring Jesus' love to their poor neighbours.
In 2004, after more than a decade of walking alongside and training Cambodian men and women of peace (Luke 10:6) we officially handed over the leadership of most of our ministries to them. They call themselves T.A.S.K.
"A leader is best when people barely know he exists, when his work is done, his aim fulfilled, they will say: we did it ourselves." (Lao-Tzu)
The Servants team now works alongside and under this Cambodian Christian leadership to bring about transformation in three major areas: children's health, women's health and public health.
