"No Foreigners live there!" said the locals when the Schneider family moved into the slums of Manila. Yet the landfills and shanties became their home for many years. It is here that they meet Bic, the crown witness, the moribund Mariebelle, Arol the rapist, the billionaire Dona, the guerilla Noel, the burnt-out development worker Rob...

A captivating new German language book from Chris and Christine Schneider tells the story of their encounters with people in the slums, of friendship and betrayal, of gun fights in open streets and floodings, of prayer, dreams and fears, of meaningless dying and meaningful living.

Swiss nationals, Christian and Christine Schneider and their two kids, spent 9 years as Servants workers in the slums of Manila. Through their work with the poor, communities for former drug users, prostitutes and street kids developed, out of which eventually evolved the charity Onesimo.

This video report from a Swiss TV channel shows the work of Onesimo, founded by Chris and Christine:
