India - The K Team

Servants have been living and working amongst the urban poor in this city for the past 7 years.  The team have built a strong network of relationships and partner closely with Indian Christians in building the Kingdom of God amongst the poor in the slums and bustees in the south of the city.  In late 2006, they were joined by two more team members and we are actively seeking more workers for this team

Servants workers in this city have established an innovative ministry amongst young women from the slums. The project provides training and job opportunities for young women from the slums. As well as being trained in tailoring and paper crafts, the women are taught English, business skills and values for life.

The women, whilst being paid for their craft work, are increasingly self sufficient. Their self esteem and dignity are built up and they are empowered to begin to improve the quality of their lives.

Is God calling you to India?

We are looking for new team members for this team with a wide range of skills, who will commit themselves for a minimum of three years to live alongside the urban poor in the slums of the city, and minister in partnership with the local church.

Our vision is to see those slums transformed by Christ.  It will take a long term commitment to see that transformation come about.

New team members initially undergo in-depth language and culture study as well as the mentoring and formation process offered to all new Servants workers in their first year on the field.

During that first year, we will also discern prayerfully together the areas of ministry that God may be leading us into.  These could include developing the existing work, such as the project helping poor women through income generation and craft-making, other church-based outreach, or pioneering new areas of service to the urban poor.  It will take time to establish our credibility to work and live as foreigners in the slums, but it is an investment worth making.

Team members will live and minister together in the south of the city. The slums are 30 - 50 years old, populated by a few hundred to 30,000 people.
