Servants UK has people involved in plenty of locations and at a variety of levels: from Scotland to Cornwall, from members of the Board of Trustees to those who join us at events or who simply receive our newsletters and prayer e-mails. The largest numbers geographically are in London and in the Midlands.

Our main purpose is to facilitate, support and expand the work of Servants' Asian teams. We also aim to promote the Servants lifestyle and values at home in UK.  Below you can read about the new vision God has given us to establish a Servants team in London.

A prayer and discussion group meets regularly for those interested in journeying with Servants in Asia or the UK. Contact Helen (uk [at] servantsasia.org) for more info on being part of this group or becoming a church rep. Check out some of our stories:

August 11: Upcoming Workshop and Launch of New Team in Southall

Join us for the next Servants day, August 11th (10:30am-5pm) as we celebrate the official launch of a new incarnational Servants team in London for 2008. In the morning we will explore the exciting new vision for a Servants team in Southall with input from local leaders.

In the afternoon, the International Coordinator of Servants, Craig Greenfield, will lead us in a workshop rediscovering the ancient Christian traditions linking intentional community and radical hospitality. Craig writes: "In our charitable quest for efficiency, to reach the most people, and to outsource the hospitality that used to be provided to the stranger from our own homes, we have lost something critical.  We have lost relationships with the poor.  We feed them by the thousands.  But we no longer know their names or their stories.  And so they long to belong."

All are welcome. Contact helen [at] servantsasia.org to register your interest.

The workshop will be held at St George's church, Southall, London. Click here for directions.

Servants to establish a new team in Southall, London

Southall is a suburb on the west edge of London, about 10 miles from the city centre.  In a report published this year, Southall was described as the least English place in England, with just 17.82% of residents being of English ethnic origin.  As you exit the train station you will see the ’Welcome to Southall’ sign in Punjabi as well as English.  A nearby pub is in the only one in the UK to accept rupees!  Consequently, Southall is known to many as ‘Little India’.  As KM from www.southall.co.uk writes:

‘Waking up everyday watching cars going past, horns beeping, Indian women walking in their salwar kameezes, the golden domes of the gurdwara, the smell of jalebis mmmm…, the sound of the same song at every stall.  Hang on this isn’t India it’s our very own Southall, a home away from home! … No town can be the same as SOUTHALL, I pretty much can tell you that. World of culture, shops, restaurants, beauty, and personality … wonderful aromas and exotic spices.  There are many places of worships in Southall, Havelock Gurdwara, the Southall Church, the Mosque and the new Mandhir. They are opened to everyone and easy to find! If you need anything you are probably sure to find it in Southall!’

In 2008, Servants will establish a new team to live and work amongst the urban poor in Southall. The team will be a Western expression of the Servants vision and principles.
